How to Organise a Fundraising Concert

If you’re looking for a way to raise funds and at the same time spread the word about your cause, then a fundraising concert is a good idea. This event usually includes live music, relevant performances and guest speakers. To raise funds, you can include an auction along the show, directly sell goods such as t-shirts and other relative merchandise, or sell concert tickets instead of giving a free show.

Organising this event, especially if yours is a small time group but with a big advocacy, is rather challenging because chances are, you won’t have the support of big funds and sponsors. There are ways, however, which you can do to organise your fundraising event without spending too much. Here’s how:

1. Create a committee and subcommittees that will tackle different aspects of the concert. You may ask for volunteers within your group and you may also encourage non-members to join your cause. Doing this will increase your man power thus organising the event will be easier from preparation to the actual day of the concert.

2. You will have to have funds so if the group has some savings, allocate an amount for the things you will need in the process. The things you will have to spend on, unless they should come from donation, are the likes of materials and fees.

If you don’t have such fund, you may try and solicit from other people or you may encourage businesses or other groups to sponsor.

3. Set a date. Decide on the date to hold the concert. This way you set a deadline as to when to accomplish things inclusive of the event.

4. Secure a venue for the concert. Depending on the size of it, you can choose from a small auditorium to a spacious field among others. If your headquarters or office has a spacious or sufficient parking lot, extra building or even a wide room, you may opt to settle there as well.

5. Find a band or rather, bands to perform in the concert. You can ask friends and other members of the group to introduce performers they know in the area. Initially, ask these bands if they are willing to perform for free for the benefit of your cause.

6. Sell tickets, distribute flyers, and spread the word by email, social networking sites and more. The goal here is to gather as many attendees as possible in order to spread your advocacy to many people and of course, to sell merchandise, tickets and other items that will bring in funds to your cause.
